Evaluate responsiveness, trust, boundaries, closeness, repair, daily coordination, and future direction—not chemistry alone.
Chemistry cannot answer long-term questions
Attraction and shared interests can begin a relationship. They do not tell you whether promises are reliable, conflict is repairable, or two lives can coexist.
Seven areas to observe
Look at communication, feeling understood, trust, boundaries, closeness pace, conflict repair, and future fit. Partner responsiveness—feeling understood, valued, and cared for—is repeatedly linked with relationship quality.
Inspect the lowest score, not only the average
Shared interests cannot cancel chronic dishonesty, and sweetness cannot resolve incompatible plans about children or fidelity. Distinguish a skill someone is learning from an adjustment they do not intend to make.
Three reality-check questions
Can I be myself and say no? Does behavior change after a problem? If this person remained much the same for five years, would I choose this life? A quiz organizes evidence; time and action test it.
Three things to remember
- Use behavior across time, not chemistry alone.
- A low core dimension can matter more than the average.
- Compatibility includes both ability and willingness.
